The old familiar club soda method has been around for years and can be effective if the stain is treated immediately.  New products on the market such as Oxy-Clean used in a cold water soak can also work well on red wine stains.  In tests done by a small university lab, the best cleaner they found was an even mixture of hydrogen peroxide, which bleaches the dyes in red wine, added  in equal part to Dawn liquid soap. The runner up was a stain remover called Erado-sol, which was almost as effective on the cotton based materials, and was the most effective in cleaning silk.
